Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to ventilation devices for ventilating a cavity in a building which is at least partially defined by a web material, such as a roof.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Under certain weather conditions, water in the form of rain and the chickens may inadvertently seep in behind an outer roof of e.g. roof tiles. Roof tops are impervious to water and placed under or behind an outer roof of e.g. roof tiles to prevent such water from entering the building structure and building space. However, it is desirable to ventilate the cavity behind the ceiling to prevent accumulation of excessive moisture in such a cavity. Therefore, ventilation devices are provided in the lower ceiling which allow air to pass through the ventilation devices.
EP 1 149 216 describes such a ventilation device for mounting in an opening in a lower roof. The device comprises several parts which must be assembled from both sides of the roof and which therefore require access to both sides of the roof.
It is an object of the invention to provide a ventilation device which can be mounted in a ceiling from one side of the roof.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention provides a venting device having an annular wall and an annular flange connected to the annular wall and extending away from the annular wall in the radial direction. A cup-shaped element having a ventilation hole which allows air to pass is continued through the ventilation hole, is connected to the annular wall, the cup-shaped element defining a cavity having an opening and a peripheral edge around the opening, where the periphery of the opening faces away from the flange in the axial direction. The cup-shaped element is invertible so that after inversion, the periphery of the opening faces the flange and so that a web material such as a lower roof can be received between the flange and the periphery of the opening with the periphery of the opening in sealing contact with the web material.
Hereby, the ventilation device can be received and mounted in an opening of a ceiling from one side of the ceiling. For mounting the ventilation device in a lower roof, either the cup-shaped element or the annular flange is passed through the opening in the lower roof, so that the cup-shaped element is on one side of the lower ceiling and the annular flange is on the other side. The cup-shaped element is then inverted. This can be done by pressing the cup-shaped element against a rigid structure, such as the roof stones or other parts of the roof structure, or the cup-shaped element can be constructed such that the cup-shaped element will be inverted upon handling it.
20
The ventilation device may be cast into one or it may be composed of two or more parts assembled. Thus, e.g. the annular wall and the annular flange may be molded into one of a first material, and the cup-shaped element may be of a second material having 25 properties which allows it to be inverted. Preferably, the first material should be relatively rigid and the second material should be relatively soft. These parts are assembled to form a single unit which can be easily handled when mounted in the opening of the ceiling.

Figure 2 is an axial section through the vent when mounted in an opening in a web material, such as a roof.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the figures, there is shown a ventilation device 10 suitable for mounting in an opening in a web material, such as a lower roof, where it is used to ventilate a cavity in a building which is at least partially defined by a web material. The ventilation device 10 has an annular wall 11 having an axis 12 having an axial direction and a radial direction across the axial direction. The annular wall 11 has a central opening 13 in the axial direction. An annular flange 14 is connected to the annular wall 11 on its outside and extends away from the annular wall 11 in the radial direction. Support elements 15 connected to the annular wall 11 extend in the axial direction and support a cup-shaped element 16. The cup-shaped element 16 has a bottom wall 17 and a peripheral wall 18 defining a cavity of the cup-shaped element 16. The free edge of the peripheral wall 18 defines a opening with a circumferential edge 19 around the opening. The cup-shaped member 16 has a number of through holes, here in the form of elongated slots 20 in the peripheral wall 18. There may also be holes in the bottom wall 17.
To make it easier to mount the ventilation device 10 in an opening in a web material, such as a lower roof, the annular flange 14 may have an interruption, here in the form of a tongue 23, which is connected to the rest of the annular flange 14 by means of a hinge 21 extending in the radial direction of the flange 14. The tongue 23 can pivot about the hinge 21 so as to provide an opening or interruption in the flange 14 of a size corresponding to the length of the tongue 23. The free end 22 of the tongue 23 may rest against a corresponding portion of the flange to form a continuous annular surface of the flange 14.
4 DK 2012 00130 U4
The figures also show a web material, such as a lower roof 100, with an opening 101. When the ventilating device 10 is to be mounted in the opening 101 of the lower 100, the tongue 23 is first lifted to provide a break in the flange of a size which allows the flange to be inserted through the aperture 101 of the lower 100. Alternatively, the cup-shaped member 16 may be inserted through the aperture 101 of the lower 100. To make this easier, the cup-shaped member 16 is flexible and can be handled to assume a shape. which allows it to pass 10 through the aperture 101 of the lower 100. Thus, the venting device 10 can be mounted from both sides of the lower and by passing either the annular flange 14 or the cup-shaped element 16 through the opening 101 of the lower 100.
In FIG. 1, the ventilation device 10 is shown after either the annular flange 14 or the cup-shaped element 16 has been passed through the opening 101 in the lower 100.
After being placed in the aperture 101 of the lower 100 as shown 20 in FIG. 1, the flexible cup-shaped member 18 is handled to invert as indicated by two curved arrows to assume the one shown in FIG. 2. If the cup-shaped element 16 can be accessed manually or with a suitable tool, then it can be handled to assume its inverted configuration. In some cases, the .100 will be placed in a building structure where access to the cup-shaped element 16 is restricted or impossible, e.g. under a roof with just a short distance between the roof and the roof. If the roof 100 is a flexible web, then the venting device 10 can be pressed from the inside by pressing the annular flange 14 and moving the venting device and the roofing 30 100 so that they come into contact with the inner side of the roof, whereby the roof will exert a force on it. cup-shaped element 16 which causes it to invert. The cup-shaped member 16 may also have a configuration which allows it to be handled from the side of the annular flange 14, e.g. through the aperture in the annular wall 11. Such handling may include pressing the bottom wall 17 or the cup-shaped member 16 may have elements (not shown) on the side thereof facing outwards in FIG. 1, such as cords, ropes or straps, which can be accessed through the aperture of the annular wall 11, and by pulling in these elements the cup-shaped element 16 can be inverted.
5
In FIG. 2, the ventilation device is shown with the cup-shaped element 16 inverted. The peripheral edge 19 is in sealing contact with the lower 100, which in turn rests against the annular flange 14.
When used in a building construction, the undercarriage 100 will often be raised at an angle to the horizontal and the cup-shaped member 16 will be at the upper, outwardly facing side of the undercarriage 100. Water on the upper / outer side of the lower 100 is prevented from reaching the inner side due to the sealing contact of the peripheral edge 19 15 with the lower 100. The cavity behind the lower is vented through the central opening defined by the annular wall 11 and the slots 20 in the wall of the cup-shaped element. 16. The total aperture area of the slots 20 in series with the central aperture 13 of the annular wall 11 and the flow resistance is selected so as to allow sufficient 20 ventilation to prevent accumulation of excessive moisture in the cavity behind the bottom 100. In addition, the width of the slots is selected. 18 so that insects and other objects are prevented from passing therethrough.
The cup-shaped element 16 is made of a material which has mechanical and physical properties, such as flexibility which makes it suitable to be inverted and to have a long-term sealing contact with the web material 100. The annular wall 11, the annular flange 14 and the supporting elements 15 may be of the same material as the cup-shaped element 16 or of a material different therefrom. Applicable materials include rubber-based materials such as TPV, polymeric materials such as TPE, optionally modified with other materials, such as PP, to provide desired properties such as mechanical properties, resilience and durability.
